The Brief

MJ Hillson were in charge of all the carpentry for the Salvation Army’s training centre in Denmark Hill, south London, in a brand new four-storey building adjacent to the charity’s existing site. The project ran from January-September 2023 and Hillsons fitted and supplied doors, skirtings, kitchens (tea points), timber doors on toilet cubicles and metal doors into the riser cupboards. The largest element of the job was panelling throughout the ground floor and atrium.

The Approach

MJ Hillson sourced and imported veneered oak MDF from Spain for the ground floor panels and ceilings. The safety of our site team was predominant during the installation of these panels: in the atrium and at the perimeter of each level we accessed the work with a spider lift. We also used tower scaffolding and a podium to access walls and ceilings. In addition, Hillsons supplied and installed reception desks and credenzas in the atrium.
