The Brief

MJ Hillson teams were contracted to fit out 18 washroom blocks in the new Shepperton development, a 40-acre studio complex occupied by Amazon and Netflix. The site is a mix of sound stages, office blocks, workshops and ancillary blocks, and the washrooms are for crew, staff and some actors.

The Approach

The fit-out involved cubicles, vanity units, mirrors, ceilings, vinyl floors, tiled floors, accessible toilets, doors, skirting, architrave and wall lining (Whiterock equivalent). For hygiene reasons, the wall lining creates a waterproof sealed unit prior to fit-out. Not each block was the same size – some were in office areas and others in sound stages. In addition, each block was treated as a separate project so we could get going on the work as soon as possible. In order to compensate for delays during other phases of the overall build, at one point Hillsons had 35 people on site, and needed to be flexible and liaise with other trades. The size of the site meant everyone certainly got their steps in!
