The Brief

Working for Laing O’Rourke, we installed doors, ironmongery and skirting in all rooms and communal areas of this new-build mental health facility – Farnham Road Hospital. This was a specialist package with health and safety concerns paramount at all times and we had to ensure our supply chain could meet these needs.

The Approach

For Farnham Road Hospital everything had to be designed and installed in such a way that the facility’s service users couldn’t harm themselves. For example, angled tops to shower doors to prevent suicide attempts, specialist ironmongery that couldn’t be taken apart, no sharp edges, anti-trap mechanisms around hinges and plugged or secret fixings. We had to take time and care to ensure that everything was installed with the needs of the residents uppermost.
