Proud to be pink – Hillsons supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, where people around the world show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer. The Hillson Group of Companies is wholeheartedly backing this cause, which means so much to so many of our valued staff and contractors.

This year alone, around 55,000 women and 370 men across the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Sadly, around 11,500 women and 80 men will die from it.

On Friday 22nd October it’s Wear it Pink! day, organised by the charity Breast Cancer Now in order to raise money for research into cancer cures and care for those affected by the disease. Breast Cancer Now wants to raise enough money to ensure that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives, and is supported to live well.

For those of us without a wardrobe full of pink frocks, we’ll be providing pink T-shirts, which all employees (including – and especially! – the bosses) will be wearing. For every T-shirt worn, the Hillson Group of Companies will make a donation to Breast Cancer Now. HR and Training Officer Kerry Richardson is the driving force behind our company’s support for Wear it Pink! day, and she’ll be collecting photos of our teams proudly wearing pink.

There’ll also be a cake sale in our head office all week, as well as a company-wide raffle (tickets are a bargain £1 each). Kerry has all the details.

Hillsons’ staff have also raised money and awareness for cancer research in other ways this year. On 5th September, our Finance Director Sheran Lobley and Senior Contracts Manager Irfaan Pochee completed the London Summer 10km run in aid of Cancer Research UK.

We’re so proud of everyone who steps up and raises money for cancer charities – well done to all of you.
