MJ Hillson putting on the style for new London development
We’re always proud to showcase the skills of our dedicated workforce creating bespoke joinery and communal-area showpiece projects and using high-end materials. All these elements are vital to our latest contract – a £5m carpentry and joinery package for McLaren Construction.
The brand-new residential development, in Fitzrovia in the heart of central London, features 84 private apartments, four penthouses, 15 affordable housing units and 35,000ft of commercial space, as well as a basement gym, cinema and dining room. It’s a striking building, with an industrial look and Crittall-style windows.
We’re installing internal door-sets, PAS 24 front entrance door-sets, vanity units and skirting boards, and in the penthouses and communal areas, we’ll be creating some bespoke pieces using a range of top-quality materials. The fireplaces in the penthouses are particularly striking, combining brass, marble, metalwork, painted steelwork and veneered timber – what’s more, they are designed to house biofuel units that burn “clean”, giving off no carbon monoxide. Bookcases and TV units in the penthouses also use a variety of materials.
In the communal and reception areas, we’ll be installing veneered wall panelling and fireplace units, plus specialised Kvadrat acoustic panels in the cinema. We’re working closely with our supply chain in order to ensure timely deliveries of the best materials for the job, including Italian sanitary fittings throughout the development.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19 we’ll be on site for 42 weeks and aim to have completed the project by June 2021.
