Job Description:

Main Responsibilities:

Nature & Objectives of the Job

You will follow a structured training and development plan throughout your Apprenticeship. As an Apprentice Carpenter your principle role is to successfully complete an NVQ Level 2/3 qualification. Following a structured training programme combining college study (where applicable) with on-the-job training leading to a full framework Carpentry qualification. You will be assigned a mentor during your Apprenticeship to assist you through your Apprenticeship.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To complete relevant mandatory and optional units set within the NVQ qualification level 2 or 3 depending on level of entry.
  • Carry out relevant site-based tasks as directed by a Contracts Manager or Mentor to ensure the gathering of evidence and understanding of your NVQ qualification, using both knowledge received through college work and understanding. Capturing the knowledge and experience of a qualified carpenter to understand the trade. These tasks will include but not limited to, Roofing & Joisting, First and Second Fix Carpentry Works, Kitchens, Finals, Cladding, Windows, Timber Frame, Loading out and Protection.
  • To continually train and develop yourself in line with the NVQ criteria.
  • To attend mentoring sessions where applicable
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety procedures are followed at all times and any hazards reported immediately. Understanding and following the company’s Health and Safety Management System at all times.
  • Carry out relevant site based tasks as directed by a Contracts Manager/Foreman, these tasks will include but not limited to carpentry duties, labouring and administration.
  • As a Carpentry Apprentice, you will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment objects. Your job will require you to work in different weather conditions, you must be prepared for both hot and cold temperatures.

BACKGROUND

GCSE’s C or above in English, Maths and Science A keen interest in Carpentry and Joinery

A year on year improvement on apprentice tool kit, detailed below is list of tools which should be obtained at each level, this list is not exhaustive and should be used for guidance purposes;

Induction Day

Nail pouch, 20oz hammer, appropriate hand saw, tape measure – 5m minimum, Stanley knife or similar, pencil

Level 1 NVQ 2 (Year 1)

  • 3 months into your apprenticeship;
  • 2 foot & 6 foot level, chisel set, cordless screwdriver – min 18volt, sharpening stone, roofing square, hand plane.
  • By completion of your level 1, NVQ 2 the following tools must be purchased in addition to those listed previously;
  • Circular Saw 110V, SDS Drill 110V, Extension Lead/Leads, Full range of hand tools.

Level 2 NVQ 2 (Year 2)

  • 3 months into your 2nd year at college the following tools must be purchased in addition to those listed previously;
  • Nail Gun or Pin Gun

Level 3 NVQ 3 (Year 3)

  • 3 months into your 3rd year, the following tools must be purchased in addition to those listed previously;
  • Other Nail/Pin Gun, Chop Saw 110V, any other necessary power tools and equipment.
